Principal’s Corner

Dear ASCE Families,

Thank you to all who attended the family dance, it was a wonderful event! A big thank you to our Home and School for sponsoring the event as well as setting up and thank you to all the parents who cleaned up!

We are so proud of Addison Brzezinski, Adelaila Costilla, Charlotte Dzurka, and Charlotte Heintskill for making bracelets and selling them at the family dance. They worked hard to create beautiful bracelets to raise money for the Good Samaritan Rescue Mission, they raised $600! Thank you so much Addison, Adelaila, Charlotte, and Charlotte for your dedication to serving others!
Also, we are proud of Logan Majdecki who organized our service project for Catholic Schools Week. On Monday, the Majdecki family and Rhodus family delivered the collected items to the mission. Thank you, Logan, for your dedication to serving others!

We had our student council elections this Wednesday. We are so proud of all the students who campaigned over the last two weeks. Each student who ran for student council created posters and gave a speech over the PA on Tuesday and Wednesday. They did a fantastic job and it was wonderful to see all the campaign posters in the school and to hear all the terrific speeches. Wonderful job to all our students who ran for students council!

Parish Info and Mass Opportunities

With the decline of young families attending church and with so much evil and hate in this world today, we need God now more than ever. It is our responsibility as Catholics to go to church weekly. By doing so, we set good examples for our children and do our part to lead them in the direction of Christ our Savior. Attending church as a family is so important and rewarding. It helps to create a special bond between you and God and between your family members. Children need to know and understand the importance of going to church consistently and having a relationship with God. There are many Mass options to accommodate busy lifestyles. So please take a little time out of your busy lives each week to grow closer to God and to enjoy Mass as a family.

Little Cougar News

Principal’s Corner

Dear ASCE Families,

We had a wonderful Catholic Schools Week! On Tuesday, the students enjoyed a movie and popcorn (thank you Mrs. Chris Herek for popping the popcorn) in the Little Theater. Wednesday, the students enjoyed hot chocolate and a treat, (thank you to Mrs. Chris Herek for preparing and serving the wonderful hot chocolate bar) the students absolutely loved their treat! On Thursday, we celebrated a beautiful mass and on Friday, the children had a wonderful retreat. Thank you to the 11th graders and Mr. Cieszlak for helping at the retreat. Also, thank you to Mrs. Mrozinski, and Mrs, Ritter for helping with students, so the teachers could enjoy lunch together!
Our students made beautiful cards to send to our priests, our seminarians, and to our volunteers. I know the thoughtfulness put into each card will make everyone’s day!
Thank you to all of our families for your support in donating items for the Good Samaritan Rescue Mission. We will deliver the donated items to the mission on Monday, February 6,2023.
We are looking forward to seeing everyone at the family dance tonight, located at Our Lady Czestochowa, St. Stans’ Parish Hall, 6:00pm—8:00pm. February 2023: ASC Middle/High School Monthly Newsletter

All Saints Catholic nurtures academic and personal excellence in all students while emphasizing Catholic values and service to others in Christ’s name.

Volume 4, Issue 6

A Note from Sister Maria José, RSM…

Dear All Saints Community,

Greetings from the Middle & High School. This month our students have been hard at work on many fronts; in the classroom they have been working on everything from reading the Odyssey in English, Cellular division in Biology and highly complex trigonometry in pre-calc. On the sporting front our basketball teams have been testing their mettle against strong opponents while our Pom team’s performance qualified them for states. On the creative front it has been great to see our Cougar Corp prepare pieces for the upcoming performances and our resident artists decorate our windows and doors. It has been great to see our students give it their all in such diverse areas.

Next week we have the wonderful opportunity to celebrate our school community with Catholic School’s week.
There will be many events that our students will be participating in next week. Students will be helping out in the community, spending time bonding with each other and on Thursday exploring how our different vocations contribute to society. To help us we will be watching Lilies of the Field, a classic movie that won Sidney Poitier an Oscar. I encourage you to ask your children about it.

In Christ Jesus,

Sister Maria José, RSM

News from Miss Zoe…

Dear ASC Families,

The All Saints website’s calendar lists sports games, dress up days, half & half days, and events in both buildings. This calendar can be found by clicking “calendar” in the topmost navigation bar on both desktop and mobile versions of the site. On the desktop version, hovering your mouse over an event can show you a description of the event if there is one, and clicking on the event will show you if there is any additional information, such as the location on a map. On the mobile version, things appear a bit differently. You will most likely need to select a specific day and scroll down to below the calendar to see the events. You can then select a specific event to see any more information. The view and features of the calendar may be different for different phones due to screen size and which mobile web browser you use.

I have heard from a few people that they have had issues with the mobile calendar, such as it not loading or showing the events. If refreshing the tab/browser, selecting specific days, and scrolling down does not work, please let me know at zoe.robinson@ascbaycity.org so I can look into if there are specific mobile browsers that do not work well with the calendar, or any other potential issues! Thank you for your patience as we become more familiar with this new feature!

God bless,

Zoe Robinson

News From Ms. Wisniewski…

Yearbook: If anyone has any great pictures, now or throughout the year, that they deem worthy of the yearbook, please email them to amy.wisniewski@ascbaycity.org!

Sports News and Notes…

We are heading towards the home stretch of the winter season, and we have many exciting happenings at ASC.

  • Our very own Ryan McDonell has been selected as a finalist for the MHSAA scholar athlete award.
  • Our amazing Pom team has advanced to the State Finals held at EMU on Feb 11.
  • The boys and girls Varsity basketball teams are playing some very exciting games. The boys’ team is young, but very talented and are improving with each game. The girls’ team is currently in first place in the NCTL Stripes Division.
  • The girls and boys Varsity bowling teams have strong members and are improving every week.

As I finish my 10th year as AD, I realize how blessed I have been to have had this position for so long. My hope for everyone is that they have a passion for the job they do every day.

  • You are lucky if the work you are doing is its own reward and is fulfilling.
  • In the long run, you realize that you are there because you love it.
  • You feel like what you are doing matters in the world and contributing to the greater good.
  • You are connected to your profession and are driven by the mission.
  • Some days might be better than others, but there is nothing else you’d rather do.
  • The time seems to pass quickly because you are so engaged and connected in what you are doing.
  • You look forward to each day and being with your students and staff.
  • Your work makes you a better person.
  • You have found your passion and it inspires you every day.
  • You are doing what you were made to do.
  • When you work with young people, they will see what having a calling looks like and they will hopefully want to find their own.

Our students inspire us and in time, I hope we inspire them.

God bless Cougar Nation

Cougar Corp News…

January has been a busy month for our young ASC musicians. We have been blessed by members of our local music community coming to visit us and provide special workshops and clinics focused on specific instruments. I would like to think that this type of focused music education is unique to our school and makes us stand out in our commitment to personal and academic excellence. Keep your eyes open for our Cougar Corp to make one or two appearances at some Friday evening basketball games this February.

Musically in Christ,

Todd Bethune
ASC band and music director

Principal’s Corner

Dear ASCE Families,

It is going to be a very exciting week at All Saints next week! Catholic Schools Week begins Sunday and we have several fun events planned for our students. Please see the attached schedule. Monday begins our school wide service project where we are collecting needed items for the Good Samaritan Rescue Mission, please see the attached flyer. Thank you to our Home and School for sponsoring the science day on Monday, we are looking forward to having the Ann Arbor Hands On Museum come to our school!
Thursday, we will celebrate mass together with the MS/HS and on Friday I have a wonderful retreat planned for the students. The 11th grade students will join us and will direct the activity stations the elementary students will rotate through. We will wrap up our Catholic Schools Celebration with our family dance at Our Lady of Czestochowa, St. Stans Parish Hall, from 6:00pm—8:00pm.
Our 3rd—5th grade students have the opportunity to run for the newly formed student council. Students who are interested had to have their form into the office today. Campaigning will begin on Monday (1/30) and continue through Tuesday (2/7). Candidates will present their speeches on both Tuesday (2/7) and Wednesday (2/8). Elections will take place on Thursday (2/9). Good luck to all our candidates!
We are planning a visit from Mrs. Kristin Rivet, State Senator for the 35th district. She will share with our 3rd—5th grade students what it means to be a representative for the people of the 35th district. Watch for communication regarding the day and time of the visit.
This upcoming week will be a very exciting week for our students and we are grateful we can celebrate the beauty of being a Catholic school!

Many Blessings,
Mrs. Rhodus

Prayer

O Christ Jesus, You are our savior, the way to our heavenly Father, You are the truth we live by, and You are the life everlasting we anticipate. We believe in You, who live and reign with God the Father in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God, for ever and ever. Amen.

Virtue of the Week

During morning prayer on Monday, January 30 we will introduce the virtue: Moderation
Moderation is attention to balance in one’s life. Such as, taking the time to exercise, not spending too much time watching tv or playing video games. Moderation is also taking time to work on homework, taking time to do your chores, and only taking one cookie, not the entire plate of cookies.

Dear Jesus, help me to keep a balance in my life, using created things properly and in the right amount that is best for me. I need Your help to set limits for myself in doing things that I enjoy, such as using video games, playing outside, eating, and using my phone. Lead me in Your way to happiness!

Sister John Dominic Rasmusssen O.P. (2014). Disciple of Christ. Education inVirtue

Principal’s Corner

Dear ASCE Families,

We had a wonderful first Lego Club Wednesday and Lego League will continue for the next 3 Wednesdays. If your child is still interested in signing up, please contact the school office.
Catholic School’s Week is right around the corner and will be a terrific week for our students. It is an opportunity to focus on the importance of Catholic Schools. We have a rich tradition of educating students in faith and academics. Father Jose’s school homily this week said it best “Catholic schools prepare our students to be good citizens in this life as well as good citizens in eternal life.” It brings me such joy to see the kindness our students demonstrate to others daily. Thank you to all of our families for making the decision to send your children to All Saints! I am truly grateful for our All Saints community!

Many Blessings,
Mrs. Rhodus

Virtue of the Week

During morning prayer on Monday, January 23 we will introduce the virtue: Orderliness
Keeping oneself physically clean and neat and one’s belongings in good order. Orderliness looks like putting things back after using them, combing your hair, brushing your teeth, and keeping your shoes tied.
Dear Lord, in Your wisdom, You created all things with perfect order. Orderliness brings peace, beauty, harmony, and joy! Please help me to keep order in my own life so that I may respect those things You have entrusted to me. Amen

January 2023: ASC Middle/High School Monthly Newsletter

All Saints Catholic nurtures academic and personal excellence in all students while emphasizing Catholic values and service to others in Christ’s name.

Volume 4, Issue 5

Dear Families,

This newsletter was prepared for you with much care. We are sorry for the late publishing date. We were waiting on a few changes and updates! Thank you for your patience and for the support you give to our students, staff, and community!

A Note from Sister Maria José, RSM…

Dear All Saints Families,

Blessed New Year! I pray that you were able to enter into the peace and joy that Christ’s birth brought to our world. It is amazing to think that we are still in the Christmas Season. So much has happened in the last month: students sat their Semester Exams, our students participated in the Christmas Concert, Ms. Levack, Ms. Goik finished up with us and Mr. Wetters has moved into a new role. We thank them for their service to our school. I know that All Saints Catholic has good friends in them and although we will miss them dearly we hope to see them around.

As we begin our new Semester, I want to thank the Middle School Students, the Arts students and Biology students for their help in making Christmas gifts for our Parishes. Many in our School Community might not know it, but our parishes are our biggest supporters of All Saints. The generosity of Corpus Christi, Our Lady of Czestochowa, St Catherine of Sienna, Our Lady of Peace, St Jude Thaddeus and All Saints’ parishioners enable us to provide affordable Catholic Education. As a small token of our gratitude, students made Christmas ornaments and trees that can be used to teach Catechism classes about how the 12 Days of Christmas was used to teach children the treasures of the faith during times of persecution. We had a great time singing the carol and learning the hidden meaning of the symbols. It was a precious reminder that the good news of Jesus Christ begins with the love that has been given to us by God. And to discover that we are not only supported by our local Churches but that we can contribute to their good through our gifts and talents. Thank you, students and teachers, I look forward to discovering new ways in which we can build relationships between our school and our parishes.

In Christ Jesus,

Sister Maria José, RSM

News from Miss Zoe…

Dear ASC Families,

A primary aspect of being part of a Catholic school is the daily opportunities to pray together. The middle/high school daily prayers and the elementary school prayer of the week are now posted each day on the desktop version of our website homepage. We invite you to pray the prayers yourselves or with your families, so we as a community are all closely united in prayer each day.

Many of you know Miss Penny Turk, who worked in the counseling office for a number of years until this school year. She has continued to take photos and post on our Facebook pages, doing a beautiful job sharing with you everything that is going on in both the middle/high and elementary schools. We are sad to say that as of January 2023, she has officially retired from running our Facebook pages. We are so blessed and thankful for her years of sharing her talents and heart with us in both buildings and on Facebook. Thank you, Penny!

Do you ever take photos at ASC events? If you have photos from elementary, middle, or high school events or activities, and you are open to them potentially being used on our Facebook page or website, please email them to zoe.robinson@ascbaycity.org! Thank you!

God bless,

Zoe Robinson

Sports News and Notes…

Happy New Year to all of our wonderful All Saints families and friends. The excitement and anticipation to make the upcoming year our best ever is always an
exciting time. Our boys’ and girls’ basketball teams are already off to a thrilling start to the season. The boys and girls bowling teams also had their first contest just before Christmas.

Some of our hardest working student athletes are members of the Dance and Pom teams. This talented group of wonderful young ladies have entertained our
crowds at halftime for years. I always enjoy watching the visiting crowd’s reaction to our girls’ routines. Amy Dishaw, Sara, and Jill Anderson do a tremendous job with our girls.

Just a quick reminder to players and parents:
If you play 30 minutes, Go All Out.
If you play 15 minutes, Go All Out.
If you play 5 minutes, Go All Out.
If you play 1 minute, Go All Out.
If you didn’t get in, Go All Out. Being the most vocal person, outworking everyone, at practice, and cheering on your teammates is what gets a coach’s attention.
Go Make a Difference, because nothing in life is handed to you. Earn It.

God bless Cougar Nation

Cougar Corp News…

I want to thank all the All-Saints Catholic families who helped make our K-8 Christmas program fun and exciting. I am so grateful for the support of over 500
people at St Stans. This was an excellent reward for the effort and work our ASC student musicians have put into their practice and studies over the semester. Keep an eye out for our Cougar Corp musicians as they will prepare music to play at some upcoming basketball games. Enjoy your Christmas holiday and may the peace and light of Christ always guide your way.

Musically in Christ,

Todd Bethune
ASC band and music director

Notes from Dinah…

Thanks to everyone for helping with our Christmas families.

Please return all sold and unsold raffle tickets! Thanks for selling/buying the tickets. It’s our school’s largest fundraiser.

Have a blessed Christmas and the best in 2023.

Stay safe.

Dinah

Principal’s Corner

Dear ASCE Families,

Welcome back, I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas and a Happy New Year! There are several exciting events beginning this month. Our 3rd—5th grade basketball teams begin their games, we are starting Lego Club, and we have Catholic Schools Week at the end of the month.
Lego Club is for students in E5– 5th grade and will be held in Wednesdays (1/18, 1/25. 2/1. and 2/8) 3:00pm—4:00pm. During Lego Club students will stay within their grade and have an opportunity to work with Legos. Early fives—first grade students will free build, second– fifth grade students will work with Lego kits. We are in need of 4 more volunteers to help with Lego club. Thank you to the STEAM event for funding the purchase of Legos and Lego kits.
Catholic Schools Week (1/29/23—2/4/23) is an annual celebration that focuses on the value Catholic education provides to our students and the wonderful impact it has on our community, looking forward to seeing what 2023 holds in store for All Saints Elementary!

Many Blessings,
Mrs. Rhodus

Prayer

Lord God, You have brought us to this day as a gift of great value. Let it be for us a day of rejoicing. In the quiet of our hearts and the work of this day, be with us Lord, now and forever. Amen.
Hardensen, Karla. (1991). Children’s Daily Prayer. Liturgy Training Publications

Virtue of the Week: Self-Control

During morning prayer on Monday, January 9 we will introduce the virtue: Self-Control
Joyful mastery over one’s passions and desires. Self-control looks like raising your hand before talking in class, walking in a straight line, being silent when you are tempted to say something mean, listening to others when they are speaking and not interrupting, keeping your hands to yourself, and trying to stay focused on your school work.
Sister John Dominic Rasmussen O.P. (2014). Disciple of Christ. Education in Virtue

Report Cards

Be sure to check your child’s book bag for report cards on Monday, January 9, 2023.

Family Sports Passes

Family passes are available for purchase in the office for the ASCE basketball and volleyball season. They are $30.00 each and will get you and your immediate family into both the home and away games. Admission prices will be $4.00 for adults and $2.00 for students, per league rules for those without a pass.

Cold Weather Reminder

Please be sure your child(ren) is prepared everyday with the appropriate clothing for outside temperatures. The students go outside daily for recess and/or gym. They are outside unless it is raining or the “feels like” temperature is below 10 degrees. If you are in need of any of these items please contact the school office.
Students need to wear the proper attire everyday, such as:

All Saints Catholic Elementary School Mission Statement

All Saints Catholic nurtures academic and personal excellence in all students while emphasizing Catholic values and service to others in Christ’s name.

Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI Passes Away at 95

April 16, 1927 – December 31, 2022

Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI, born Joseph Ratzinger in Bavaria, Germany, was Pope from April 19, 2005 until his resignation on February 28, 2013. He lived a long, influential life.

As an All Saints family, let us pray for the repose of his soul, and in thankfulness for his leadership in the Church and his many positive influences.

Eternal rest grant unto him O Lord, and may perpetual light shine upon him. May he rest in peace. Amen.
