ASC Middle/High School: Note to Parents

All Saints Catholic nurtures academic and personal excellence in all students while emphasizing Catholic values and service to others in Christ’s name.

Dear ASC Parents,

Spring has truly come and our students are ready for the summer! As I write, we have celebrated the good work that our high school students completed throughout the year. Our Honors Assembly was a poignant reminder that our students time at All Saints is about excellence in all areas. As I saw our graduating class in their caps and gowns, ready to take the next step into adulthood, I was thankful for the privilege that is ours as Catholic educators. At All Saints we have the privilege of helping these young men and women to grow in faith, knowledge, leadership, and a heart of service. In a recent conversation with one of our graduates, she mentioned the impact that her teachers have had on her life journey; helping her to grow in resilience and how she in turn was helping others to grow. Many would look to our academic scores or scholarship money earned as a measure of success, and while these are important, I would also include the ability of students to concretely live out their faith. We see that in our graduating class of 2023. While we will miss them, they are ready to take on the world and change it for the better. Thank you, parents, for trusting us with your children.

In other news, we are looking for your input regarding your child’s experience at All Saints this year. Mrs. Rhodus and I would like to invite you to a working lunch where we will discuss all things All Saints. We will have more information to you regarding those opportunities in early June.

Are you interested in helping out with Robbotics? Or do you know someone who is? We are looking at starting a robotics class or a club and we need someone who can lead those efforts. If that is you please send me an email at srmariajose.perez@ascbaycity.org

Lastly, please check the calendar included for all of the events that are happening at All Saints these next two weeks.

Thank you,

Sister Maria Jose, RSM

Deacon Gary, President of the Diocese of Saginaw Educational Committee visited All Saints and encouraged students to stay connected with God. One of the most powerful ways to grow in relationship with Christ is to participate in the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass and receive Jesus himself. For that reason, we ask you to take a little time out of your busy lives each week to grow closer to God and to enjoy Mass as a family. We have included the Mass times for our Parishes in Bay City for your convenience.

Principal’s Corner

Dear ASCE Families,

Thank you so much to our wonderful Home and School for providing our teachers with a beautiful Teacher Appreciation Week. In a big special way, we would like to thank April DiRusso, Kelcie Krugielki, Amanda Mrozinski, and Heidi Webster for organizing and setting up this week. Our teachers enjoyed coffee and cinnamon rolls, pretzels and popcorn, lunch and ice cream this week along with a gift from Home and School! The students also surprised their teachers with a special gift, please see the pictures on the following pages. Thank you to the Bartkowiak family for the “We love our teachers and staff” sign. What a great surprise! Also, thank you to all our families who provided gifts and treats for our teachers! We are truly blessed to have our amazing teachers and ASCE families!

This Thursday, each ASCE student can invite a special person to mass. We will celebrate mass with our special persons and then have a reception in Langley Hall before our students head back to school. Each class will have an assigned location. At 8:15am the students will begin to arrive at the church. Special persons meet us at church. Mass will begin at 8:30am.

This Sunday, we celebrate Mother’s Day. We wish all of our moms a very Happy Mother’s Day!

Prayer

Thank You, Heavenly Father, for sending the Holy Spirit to be with us always. May we continue to grow closer to You, with the Spirit’s help and guidance. Through Christ our risen Lord. Amen.

Virtue of the Week

On Monday, May 15, we will introduce Trustworthiness.

Acting in a way that inspires confidence and trust such as turning homework in on time, not gossiping, and finishing a job or task well.

Dear Jesus, Help me to be faithful in even the little things of each day. In Your eyes nothing is little when done with great love! Amen.

Mother’s Day Blessing

Loving God, as a mother gives life and nourishment to her children, so You give life and care for Your church. Bless these women, as we celebrate this day in their honor. May they be strengthened as Christian mothers. Let the example of their faith and love shine forth. Grant that we, their sons and daughters, may honor and appreciate them with a spirit of profound respect. May the example of Mary, Mother of Jesus, inspire them to live their vocation as Christian mothers and call their children to faith. Guide and protect them in challenging times and help them to continue to trust in You all the days of their lives. Grant this through Christ our Lord. Amen.

April 28, 2023 – Elementary Newsletter

Principal’s Corner

Dear ASCE Families,

We are well into our Spring session of NWEA, and we are looking forward to seeing everyone’s growth! We will communicate with all families about their child’s growth after testing concludes May 19.

This Thursday we will have our May Crowning. We invite all students to bring a flower to crown the statue of our Blessed Mother here at school. On May 4, we will celebrate mass beginning at 8:30am. After mass students will walk in a procession back to school with their flowers. Each student will have the opportunity to present their flowers to the statue of our Blessed Mother.

We are looking forward to celebrating our teachers during Teacher Appreciation week, which will be Monday, May 8—Friday, May 12. We are so happy to be blessed with a wonderful staff here at All Saints and it will be an honor to recognize all of them during Teacher Appreciation week!

Many Blessings,
Mrs. Rhodus

Prayer

Lord Jesus, You are the way, the truth, and the life. Keep our faith strong, so that our hearts may never be troubled. Who live and reign with God the Father, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God, for ever and ever. Amen.

Hardensen, Karla. (1991). Children’s Daily Prayer. Liturgy Training Publications.

Virtue of the Week

On Monday, April 24, we will introduce Prayerfulness.
Prayerfulness is being still, listening, and being willing to talk to God as a friend such as making the Sign of the Cross slowly and deliberately and talking to God as a friend.

Dear Jesus, I desire to have You as my friend, Give me a desire to spend time with You each day, as I do with my friends. Help me to always put You first in my life, even when I am busy. Amen.

ASC Middle/High School Bi-Weekly Newsletter: April 1-15

All Saints Catholic nurtures academic and personal excellence in all students while emphasizing Catholic values and service to others in Christ’s name.

The All Saints Catholic Middle and High School monthly newsletter has now become a bi-weekly newsletter! This is our fourth installment with this new bi-weekly schedule. Look forward to these going out via skyward and on the ASC website blog every two weeks.

Volume 1, Issue 4

A Note from Sister Maria José, RSM…

Dear ASC Families,

Blessed Holy Week!

In our last newsletter I promised an update on Bishop Gruss’ visit to All Saints. It was a lovely experience for our school community. We started off with Mass, celebrated by Bishop Gruss, then the students joined Mr. Cieszlak and I for Catholic Trivia game while Bishop Gruss met with our faculty and staff. This was a unique opportunity of encounter and dialogue between the Shepherd of our Diocese and our staff. Father Jose, who facilitated the meeting, said that the love of our staff for our school shone through and that staff very much want the opportunity to help move our school forward. I am so grateful that we have such dedicated staff to educate our students. It is with that meeting in mind, that I take the opportunity to explore what is Catholic Education and how we live that out at All Saints.

We know from Jesus’ last message to the Apostles, that He charged them to make disciples of all nations and to teach them to live as Jesus had taught them (Mt 28:16-20). 2000 years later Catholic Schools like ours are working hard to do just that; helping our students encounter Christ and become His disciples that they may live life to the fullest. We do this in many ways; from the courses that we teach, the faith experiences that we offer, to the extra curricular activities and other social events. In the past two weeks alone, students have taken part in the D.C. Trip, retreats, sporting and community service activities. In all these activities we want students to discover their gifts, what brings them joy, and to learn to be good citizens both for this life and the next.

As we enter into Spring Break, I pray that you will take the opportunity to enter into the rhythm of Holy Week and be renewed by the love of Christ our Lord.

See you in the Easter Season,

In His Mercy,

Sister Maria José, RSM

Sports News…

The warm weather and sunshine is upon us. Our Varsity Baseball and Softball teams have strong members, as does the middle school softball teams.

In the famous words of Ernie Harwell when he traditionally kicked off the official start of baseball, with the Biblical Stanza “Lo the winter is passed, the rain is over and gone, the flowers appear on the earth, the time of the singing of birds has come, and the voice of the truth is heard in the land.”

God bless Ernie Harwell Cougar Nation,

Cougar Corp News…

Hello All Saints music community!

I’ve just returned from a trip to Washington D.C. with our eighth grade class. It’s just a great feeling to come back from a jam packed tour of National History and to feel so fired up at the quality of our families, staff, and students. The future is bright at All Saints Catholic and our community shines bright in the light of Christ.

I cannot believe we are already in the fourth marking period and Easter/spring break will be here next week!

There is so much to be proud of with our musical Cougars. First, have you seen the new ASC band t-shirts? The design was done in the fall by Eden Pisarkiewicz. When she showed me the design I just knew that we would have to get it pressed on a t-shirt. I think the final product turned out great!

Second, did you hear members of our advanced band playing at the St. Patrick’s parade? What a great display of student musical talent!

Our advanced band members have been busy practicing harmony, dynamics, and rhythm. Currently, they are working on the music from the movie Pirates of the Caribbean and the progress and sound being made in the Little Theater is just great. Our sixth grade have been making their way through the Essential Elements band method book and are developing their sound and band identity!

Musically in Christ,

Todd Bethune
ASC band and music director

Big news for All Saints performing arts this week! After listening to a lot of feedback about last year’s Alice in Wonderland school production we have decided to offer a theater class, which will focus on the musical, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. Details are still being worked out. We encourage you to speak with your student and to contact Mr. Bethune to discuss details.

Principal’s Corner

Dear ASCE Families,

Thank you to all who attend Literacy Night, it was a wonderful evening of reading and literacy activities! Thank you to high school students, Yinuo Song, Michael Rhodus, Kellen Proctor, Hailey Douglas, and Nathan McInerney who helped run each of the stations! A big thank you to Mrs. Ritter for making and setting up all the decorations for Literacy Night! It was wonderful for the students to go on an adventure!

Yesterday, we prayed the Stations of the Cross as a school. Mrs. Neetz’s 4th grade class put together a beautiful PowerPoint including drawings from Mrs. Germain’s 1st grade class. The 4th grade students then walked us through the Stations of the Cross. Thank you to the 4th grade class for providing this beautiful way for our school to pray the Stations of the Cross.

Next Thursday, we begin the Easter Triduum. The liturgical services that take place during the Triduum are Mass of the Lord’s Supper, Good Friday of the Lord’s Passion, and Mass of the Resurrection of the Lord at the Easter Vigil. Enclosed you will find the parish schedules for Good Friday, Easter Vigil, and Easter Sunday.

Wishing all of our families a wonderful spring break and a Blessed Easter!

Many Blessings,
Mrs. Rhodus

Prayer

We glorify You, O Lord, and sing songs of joy and praise! Thank you for giving us Your Son, our beloved Lord and Savior. May we worship and follow Him every day. We pray in His Name. Amen.

Virtue of the Week

During morning prayer on Monday, April 10, we will introduce Patience

This includes bearing present difficulties calmly, such as raising your hand and waiting calmly for your teacher to call on you, waiting without complaining, and not getting upset when others make mistakes.

Dear God, help me to wait without complaining, to see You in my neighbor, and to let Your grace enter this moment so that I may not lose my patience.

All Saints Catholic Elementary School Mission Statement

All Saints Catholic nurtures academic and personal excellence in all students while emphasizing Catholic values and service to others in Christ’s name.

Parish Info and Mass Opportunities

With the decline of young families attending church and with so much evil and hate in this world today, we need God now more than ever. It is our responsibility as Catholics to go to church weekly. By doing so, we set good examples for our children and do our part to lead them in the direction of Christ our Savior. Attending church as a family is so important and rewarding. It helps to create a special bond between you and God and between your family members. Children need to know and understand the importance of going to church consistently and having a relationship with God. There are many Mass options to accommodate busy lifestyles. So please take a little time out of your busy lives each week to grow closer to God and to enjoy Mass as a family.
