Principal’s Corner

Dear ASCE Families,

Thank you to all who attend Literacy Night, it was a wonderful evening of reading and literacy activities! Thank you to high school students, Yinuo Song, Michael Rhodus, Kellen Proctor, Hailey Douglas, and Nathan McInerney who helped run each of the stations! A big thank you to Mrs. Ritter for making and setting up all the decorations for Literacy Night! It was wonderful for the students to go on an adventure!

Yesterday, we prayed the Stations of the Cross as a school. Mrs. Neetz’s 4th grade class put together a beautiful PowerPoint including drawings from Mrs. Germain’s 1st grade class. The 4th grade students then walked us through the Stations of the Cross. Thank you to the 4th grade class for providing this beautiful way for our school to pray the Stations of the Cross.

Next Thursday, we begin the Easter Triduum. The liturgical services that take place during the Triduum are Mass of the Lord’s Supper, Good Friday of the Lord’s Passion, and Mass of the Resurrection of the Lord at the Easter Vigil. Enclosed you will find the parish schedules for Good Friday, Easter Vigil, and Easter Sunday.

Wishing all of our families a wonderful spring break and a Blessed Easter!

Many Blessings,
Mrs. Rhodus

Parish Info and Mass Opportunities

With the decline of young families attending church and with so much evil and hate in this world today, we need God now more than ever. It is our responsibility as Catholics to go to church weekly. By doing so, we set good examples for our children and do our part to lead them in the direction of Christ our Savior. Attending church as a family is so important and rewarding. It helps to create a special bond between you and God and between your family members. Children need to know and understand the importance of going to church consistently and having a relationship with God. There are many Mass options to accommodate busy lifestyles. So please take a little time out of your busy lives each week to grow closer to God and to enjoy Mass as a family.

March 24, 2023 – Elementary Newsletter

Principal’s Corner

Dear ASCE Families,

Thank you to all the families who participated in the Saint Patrick’s Day Parade! Thank you to all who helped put together our beautiful float, many thanks to the Bader family, Dengler family, Felske family, Kerbleski family, Najdowski family, and the Olson family! Also, thank you to Mr. Bethune and the middle school band members who joined the elementary on the float! It was fantastic to be part of the parade and a great day to be a Cougar!

We celebrated a wonderful Mass with Bishop Gruss on Friday. It was a beautiful celebration as preschool, elementary, middle and high school students and staff joined Bishop Gruss and Father Jose for Mass. After Mass, Bishop Gruss visited each classroom and took time to answer many questions from our students. Thank you Bishop Gruss!

As we continue our Lenten journey let us be reminded of the many gifts we have been given and give thanks to our Lord.

Many Blessings,
Mrs. Rhodus

Prayer

Jesus our Lord, You have called Lazarus to life, and saved us all from death. You have set us free from sin and given us everlasting life. We thank You and love You! Who live and reign with God the Father, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, God for ever and ever. Amen.

Hardensen, Karla. (1991). Children’s Daily Prayer. Liturgy Training Publications.

Virtue of the Week

During morning prayer on Monday, March 27, we will introduce Magnificence

Doing great things for God, such as using one’s talents for good, helping others, and making an extra sacrifice.

Dear Jesus, sometimes I do not want to do the right thing. Help me now to do the right thing for You and to do all things, great or small, with great love. Amen

Literacy Night

Literacy Night is this Wednesday, March 29 from 6:00– 7:00pm. Students will get the opportunity to read and participate in reading activities with their family. This is also a great way to take advantage of some extra AR testing time!

SumDog

Sumdog is a highly engaging free app for personalized practice that we use for during math class as a review tool. This is a fun way to motivate and engage students as they compete against other classes and schools, locally or nationally. Scores are based on accuracy, while the students’ individual scores are based on the number of questions answered correctly during the contest. The class score is based on the average of the number of students and correct answers. There was a Michigan statewide contest last week, out of all the participating schools in Michigan, which was 1,026 students in total, Norah Ritter came in 2nd place!!! Norah is in 2nd grade in Mrs. Heintskill’s class and worked so hard to earn her 2nd place! Way to go Norah! The whole 2nd grade class placed 9th out of 178 classes. You all did an amazing job, we are very proud of you!

Door Decorating Contest

As a part of Reading Month, each class had a door decorating contest. All the doors turned out fantastic. Great job teachers and students! The ASC senior students came over to judge the doors (see pictures on the following page). The winners are in…. Congratulations to 2nd grade for taking first place, right behind them was 3rd grade in second place, followed by 4th grade who came in third place! Great job to everyone!

Volume 1, Issue 3

A Note from Sister Maria José, RSM…

Dear All Saints Families,

The past few weeks may have brought the winter chill but it has not stopped our students from being out and about in the community! Our students have been engaged in various service activities; some have spoken at Parish Masses, some have helped to run the blood drive, others have helped out at the Pot of Gold, and still more students are set to help out at the elementary with their literacy activities. It is beautiful to see our students using their gifts and talents to help others. Even more inspiring are our teachers who have provided creative ways for our students to learn the value of our Lenten practices.

Speaking of Lenten practices, this week our students were given the opportunity to participate in the sacrament of Confession. Thank you, Father Rick for making that possible. This week individual classes have begun to pray the stations of the Cross at the Church. It is our hope that every class will be able to pray the stations. I took a Freshman class and was edified by how reverent they were in prayer. At the end they shared which of the stations struck them and why. There
responses reflected how uniquely our Lord speaks to us. I encourage you to ask your child about the different Lenten practices that they are experiencing at All Saints.

Also, this week we have been preparing for Bishop Gruss’ visit to All Saints. We will give you the scoop of how that visit went in our next newsletter.

In His Mercy,

Sister Maria José, RSM

News from Miss Zoe…

Dear ASC families,

A big “thank you!” goes out to everyone who participated in addressing parish congregations at Masses during the weekend of March 11 and 12, as well as those who handed out invita-tions to the preschool/kindergarten open house and school tours. We so appreciate these stu-dents, parents, alumni, and community members for their willingness to help out! We are also thankful for those who expressed interest in helping but were not able to that weekend for different reasons.

Praying for a fruitful Lenten season for you and your families. God bless,

Zoe Robinson

We would like to offer a huge thank you to everyone who contributed and participated in the Pot of Gold. Thank you so much for supporting All Saints athletics.

A message to our students:
Some kids are smarter than you.
Some kids are better at sports than you.
It Doesn’t Matter!
You have your own thing too!
Be the kid who can get along.
Be the kid who is generous.
Be the kid who is happy for others.
Be the kid who does the right thing

– Always be the nice kid! –

Cougar Corp News…

Hello All Saints music community,

On behalf of our 6, 7, 8th grade cougar musicians I would like to thank everyone who helped make our new Cougar Corps tee-shirts a reality. It’s such a wonderful thing experience the support of our community as we learn and grow together as musicians.

Retired local business owner, Fred Herter, stopped by the Little Theater on, Thursday the 9th, to promote his 37th annual band camp at Camp Timbers this
upcoming June. Last summer 8 of our band members participated at the camp and the results of this focused time of music have been evident at all the band activities this year.

I again want to express my gratitude to Donna Stuart, James Besaw, and Jacob Wisenbach for visiting our school again the past few weeks and providing such
enriching musical education with our wind, brass, and single reed instrumentalists. It is my hope that as I continue to develop the music program at All Saints these type of seminars become a reason for students to journey through practice, performance, and most importantly musical experience with Holy Spirit.

Musically in Christ,

Todd Bethune
ASC band and music director

A Note from Dinah…

Thanks to all the volunteers for helping at the Pot of Gold.
If you have any wicker baskets you don’t want, please send them to school. I always have a use for them.

God Bless

Dinah

A Note from Home & School Club…

A letter regarding post prom was sent via email to all parents of the junior and senior class. Please let us know if you did not receive one.

A Note from Ms. Wisniewski

We have a name for Room 319! The name will be St. Joseph’s Room! Fr. Jose will be blessing St. Joseph’s Room the day after St. Joseph’s Feast Day which happens to be the feast of St. Jo-seph Spouse of Mary! We have also been given a statue of St. Joseph for the prayer corner! Thank you for the great donation!
We are still looking for donations of furniture, games, etc. Please reach out to Ms. Amy.

What We’re Up To…

There are some exciting developments at All Saints. We just received word that our EANS II grant was approved. This means that in the coming year we will be purchasing new curriculum for our core classes, updating our technology AND acquiring brand new band equipment. We will need your help to ensure that our resources meet the needs of our school community. Please look out for messages inviting you to join the school’s efforts.

Also, on our desk we are putting the finishing touches on the course selections for this year. We are actually putting together a curriculum guide with all the courses that we offer at All Saints. That will be sent to you in the near future.

A Note from Sister Maria José, RSM…

Dear All Saints Families,

It is hard to believe that we are in the season of Lent. And yet, our regular basketball season is coming to a close, our seniors are gearing up for their retreat, and our students are well into their studies. It has been a joy to see our students engaged in their classes.

This week kicked off our Lenten Prayer. We prayed with the story of the rich young man who asked Jesus for the secret to eternal life. In response to the reading students were challenged to think of ways that we could give alms or do good works. This challenge was designed to spark some friendly rivalry, at a deeper level it is an invitation to discover the joy of following Christ through service to others, a key aspect of our mission here at All Saints. May our Lenten practices draw us closer to Christ.

In Christ Jesus,

Sister Maria José, RSM

News from Miss Zoe…

Dear ASC families,

We have had several snow days in the past few weeks. All parents should automatically be signed up for ASC text alerts, but just in case, all snow day notifications are also posted to the middle/high and elementary Facebook pages, as well as our website shortly after texts go out. On the website, this alert can be found in a red banner at the very top of the homepage.

During the weekend of March 11 and 12, ASC community members will be going to Bay City/Essexville parishes at all Mass times to address the congregations after Mass. Parishes are a big support to the school, both financially and through prayer. We want to thank the parishioners for their support, and it would be a great help if ASC community members including parents, students, teachers, staff, alumni, volunteers, or others involved in the All Saints community would be willing to do this. We would also love to have students passing out invitations to an upcoming open house and tours to the parishioners on their way out of Mass. Please let us know if you can help out in this way! We can absolutely provide you with everything you would need to do or say if you will be speaking. If you would like to participate, please sign up at this link: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/20F0B45AAAC2EAAF49-catholic

Please reach out if you have any questions: zoe.robinson@ascbaycity.org

God bless,

Zoe Robinson

Cougar Corp News…

Hello, All Saints families and community,

Thank you very much for all the support of our 7/8th grade advanced band at Friday, February 24ths ASC basketball game. It was very exciting to have live student music being performed and add to the vibrant spirit of the games.

We have guest music clinicians coming the next few weeks to continue developing our student musician’s embouchure, tone, and technique. Our school
music community is so blessed to have local professionals augment our developing music program.

Keep an eye open for Cougar Corp band members at this year’s St Patrick’s Day Parade in Bay City on Sunday, March 19.

Plans have begun for a final concert to be held in May. We have some very fun things we are discussing to make this a special event. More details to follow as we
solidify the event.

We are still on the lookout for any slightly used band instruments that would be available for donation. If you have an instrument you would like to donate please contact Mr. Bethune at todd.bethune@ascbaycity.org

Musically in Christ,

Todd Bethune
ASC band and music director

What We’re Up To…

At ASC we are almost done revising the Tardy Policy. This is an important effort to make sure that our students maximize their learning. Also, on our desk is the 2023-2024 Course Selection Offerings. We are excited at the possibility of running more electives and look forward to having your input. Please keep an eye out for that communication.

Bishop Gruss will visit the School on Friday, March 17, and you are invited to attend Mass. It is at 8:30 at St James’ Church. Our Students will take part in a Catholic Trivia in the Langley Hall directly afterwards. If you are able to help out with supervising the Trivia, we would love your help. Contact Sister Maria Jose at 989-892-2533.

Room 319 update – We are putting the finishing touches on with paint. The next step is to fill and stage the space. We are asking for donations of any games; card games, board games, etc. for the students. Also, any gently used furniture; table, chairs, bean bag chairs, etc. Please email Ms. Amy if you are interested in helping with that: amy.wisniewski@ascbaycity.org

Good things are happening at All Saints!

Volume 1, Issue 1

A Note from Sister Maria José, RSM…

Dear All Saints Community,

It is with deep gratitude that I thank you for your support of Catholic Schools. This year’s CSW was a mixture of fun, faith, service, and learning. The highlight for many students was the ice skating; this year we managed to get the whole school over to the rink for one session. For me, the highlight was the school spirit that permeated the week. Whether we were at the gym for fun and games or in the chapel praying for those who support our school, our students gave it their all. It was great to see and a testament to your efforts. Thank you. This week we began exploring the concept of excellence through our school prayer. We read the story of Cain and Able to gain insight why goodness matters and how it relates to excellence. We will continue to delve into the concept of excellence in education during the coming weeks.

In Christ Jesus,

Sister Maria José, RSM

Cougar Corp News…

The halls are alive with the sounds of music at All Saints!

Our sixth grade beginning band has been working on learning brass, woodwind, and percussion instruments. The progress these young Cougar musicians are making is great to hear. Many of our 6th grade band members have taken me up on my “21-day challenge” in effort to make instrument practice a good and consistent daily habit. The habits and improving results I’m hearing in tone, intonation, and timing are shaping up.

Our advanced band members are working towards playing pep music for the final basketball game of this season. The double header is on Friday, February 24. If you have not had the opportunity to hear these young musicians in action yet I would highly recommend it. I think you will enjoy the music they have been working on.

We are on the lookout for gently used instruments for donation to the music program. If you have one or know someone who does please contact me at todd.bethune@ascbaycity.org with information.

Musically in Christ,

Todd Bethune
ASC band and music director

What We’re Up To…

During this second half of February we are working on several projects at All Saints. The main project is that of our school’s accreditation process, which we are near completion. As a staff we have been reviewing the tardy policy currently in place. Tardiness is the largest disciplinary issue at All Saints. Our concern is that it reduces the amount of learning that happens in a classroom. We are exploring ways to help our students to develop the self-discipline needed to be on time. We look forward to sharing with you the fruit of our labors.

Also in the works, we are gathering data on student achievement on content and skills through quizzes in the core learning areas. These quizzes do not count towards their grade. Instead we will use the data to guide our curricular efforts.

Good things are happening at All Saints!

A Note From Dinah…

Reminder the Pot of Gold is March 11!

Everyone on Northern Concrete Scholarship MUST donate a gift card for the event. The gift card can be any amount and for any place. You can get scrip and help yourself. I must have the gift card by February 28. Put my name and yours on the envelope so you get credit. If you do not respond, your scholarship will be taken away for 3 months. If you have any questions, please call me. I will not be calling.

Have a great month! Next week we will be on our Lenten journey.

Blessings,
Dinah DuRussel

A Note from Home & School Club…

A huge thank you to all who came out to the Euchre Tournament! It was such a success that we are looking into hosting another event!
Please be on the lookout for information regarding post prom.

Principal’s Corner

Dear ASCE Families,

This is an exciting time of year as we prepare for Lent and Easter. This Wednesday, Ash Wednesday, begins our Lenten journey, this is a season of prayer, fasting, and almsgiving. This is a time for us to prepare for the celebration of our Lord’s Resurrection at Easter. We need to take time to seek and to follow Christ, to spend time in prayer, and to share what we have with others. As we prepare for Lent, let us be thankful for all the blessings we have been given. Wishing all ASC families a blessed Lenten journey!

Many Blessings,
Mrs. Rhodus

Prayer

Lord God, help us to be one with You during this season of Lent. Guide us as you led Jesus through the trying times in His life. May we let go of our negative habits and thoughts that make us feel distant from Your loving presence. We look forward to the joy of Easter, for our hope is Jesus in this time of preparation. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.
